This is extremely time consuming for the depot, as it is not uncommon for some jobs to require in excess of 12 shear stops. The shear stops also need to be removed or course when the equipment comes back off hire, another time consuming process.

The long awaited shear clamp is a revolutionary product developed in-house by GF engineers. Basically it is a reusable shear restraint which clamps to the beam by four locking cam mechanisms. Its advantages are numerous, being simple and robust in operation and quick to install and remove. It does not require welding and therefore can be fitted outside and can, if necessary, be re-located on site when the excavation size changes. The clamp has been subjected to stringent load testing and will be patented.
