Groundforce Pumps Head for the Banks of the Thames

Hire specialist Groundforce pumps has supplied two of their 8 inch Hidrostal super-silenced ‘Betsy’ pumps to divert sewage from an excavation close to the river Thames in Reading where main contractor J Murphy & Son is carrying out investigative work on behalf of Thames Water.

Groundforce Pumps Head for the Banks of the Thames

The ultra-quiet Betsy pumps which can work continuously are pumping raw sewage from the manhole at the rate of 400 litres per second which it then returns to the main sewer 100 m downstream.

As the manhole they are pumping from is only 2 m from the banks of the River Thames. It is vital that the risk of spillage into the river is eliminated. To safeguard against this the pumps are fitted with a specially designed telemetry system which will automatically send a text alert to the Groundforce pumps maintenanceengineers, to alert them of any malfunction.
